I am a professor at a large research university in the US, working in one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.  I love quantum mechanics. And science fiction. And bad puns. And writing choppy sentences for effect.

What’s up with the name xykademiqz, you ask? The answer will blow your mind! (No, not really. But almost.)

In 2016, I published a book, Academaze, under the pen name Sydney Phlox (publisher Annorlunda Books). The book is a collection of essays and cartoons on life in academia, based on my years of blogging.
